SPIRITUAL AWAKENING Acrylic on wood, ?”x ?”
Biography
Anishinaabe artist and member of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation.
Statement
Aaniin I’m Albert Snache from Rama First Nation and my clan is Bear Clan.
The title of my painting is Spiritual Awakening.
The materials I used to create this art piece are a piece of wood as the canvas. I used spray paint to complete the background and moon: then I used acrylic paint markers to paint my design on.
My painting represents our connection to the land as illustrated by everything happening on Turtle Islands and amongst great odds we still fight for out rights to remain connected to the land and respect our kinship with Turtle Island. The coyotes represent the spirit animals as well as a reflection of 2 spirit people and their balance and important roles they have in our communities. The clan system is represented with the footprints. That’s an important part of governance in terms of how we all have roles and responsibilities in protecting our land.
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this collective. Sorry I could not be more involved due to unfortunate circumstances however I am honoured and thrilled to be able to create an art piece for the final round.
Thank you/Miigwech to all for being at the final unveiling. Baamaapii Gawabman (See Yous Later)
