Statement

The stick is the pickerel with a Land Back tattoo. There are 3 layers on this panel. 3 Flying Ducks are paint splotches now covered by the second layer of paint spatter. The final layer has wood and paper attached.

I did a series of spatter paintings in 2018. They represent sounds: drum beats, heart beats, birdsong, voices.  They are background. I had a dream when I was a young artist of a green painting that had healing properties. When I work in greens, I feel a special surge of energy trying to capture a bit of that perfect green. I felt I had something to add to Green Sound and waited for the idea to appear. When Chief Ladybird sent me her piece, I knew this was it. Her image showing the men fishing and all that means in indigenous tradition is reality for a few, but a beautiful future for many if land and traditions can be reclaimed.

3 Flying Ducks/Green Sound to me connotes sitting on the riverbank, listening to the sounds, watching the reflections in the water, looking through the surface to life below. Looking closely at the stick/fish, the viewer will notice letters, in reflection, spelling out Land Back and will hopefully want to find out more about this movement.
