Statement

I broke a pane of glass and saw a buffalo head in some of the fragments. I took those pieces and painted them with transparent colours - alternating warmer and cooler shades of yellows and reds. A constellation of white sparks, in honour of the White Buffalo spirit that guided our round's meditations, are seen below each piece of glass and are linked to a larger spark in the artwork’s centre.

The sparks underlying the varied colours and shapes of the fragments reference an Anishnaabe belief shared with me by Wanda Monague, the artist I followed in the line up: all living things recognize one another as relatives that originate from the same Creator and spirit world.
