Ogima Miskwaaki Gallery

Welcome to the Ogimaa Miskwaaki  Gallery located at 62 Peter St. N. in Orillia, Ontario, Canada. It is situated on the Traditional Home Lands of the Anishinabek peoples since time immemorial.

The Chippewas of Rama First Nation are the keepers and guardians of the earth the Gallery is housed on. If one drilled a hole into the floor of the Gallery one would touch the earth where the last traditional Ogima (Head Spokes Person) named Ogimaa Miskwaaki (Chief Red Earth) walked and perhaps even had his lodge.

In order to acknowledge and respect the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples to “Free and Prior Consultation”, (Canada Signed this Declaration), the CEO and Director of St Paul’s United Community Centre (a non-sectarian branch of the United Church that presently owns the facility), Dr. Ted Reeve, met with the Chief and Council of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation to explore the idea of dedicating the gallery to a name of their choice as an act of Reconciliation and Truth telling. The Chief and Council discussed the naming and asked that that be named, Ogimaa Miskwaaki  Gallery. The Gallery was formally dedicated in public on October 23, 2022 at the public Reveal of the Third Round of the Call To Action #83 Art works. It was presented by Ted Reeve and received by Chief Ted Williams, Counselor and former Chief Lorraine McRae of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation and Traditional Knowledge Keeper and Former Chief of Beausoliel First Nation, Myiingan Minonaakwhe (Jeff Monague). It was witnessed and celebrated by both Indigenous and non-Indigenous attendees.
