Statement
As a young Indigenous woman, my life has been influenced by the residential school legacy. I drew on some of the images that represent the lasting effects of missing and murdered women and girls (the red dress), the loss of our culture through the residential School policies (the orange shirt image) and the water droplets of tears (intergenerational grief). The canoe represents the traditional skills that I am devoting my life to. As I return to my traditions I am healing. I am becoming the woman I am meant to be. Although the world has tried to break me, my circle has not been broken. I am becoming whole. It is my job now to pass the traditional teachings to the next generation.
