Statement
I start most days by making a list of my intentions for the day. Often my studio is littered with little pieces of paper and sometimes they become the subject of my art. During Round 1, I saw how dedicated the First Nations artists and elders are to the hard work of reclaiming their selves and decided this new art needed to be about my plan to contribute in a practical way.
I chose to work small and to the point, literally, as the point of the pencil in my hand is at the center of the painting. The three items on my list represent a specific action I am going to do. I know what they mean but others will have to guess. A new word is being written, laundry, which appears on most of my lists. This note is to myself and to non-Indigenous viewers, to not let time tick away. Let’s make time in daily life to work on the society we would like ours to be.
